TRYOUTS ARE HELD EACH MAY

SWAT Youth Soccer Tryouts

Tryout status: 2026–27 season

The 2026–27 competitive season is underway. SWAT competitive teams are formed at tryouts held at the end of May each year for the next seasonal year. Seasons, schedules and travel vary by age group and league.

  • Next tryouts: end of May 2027, for the 2027–28 season. Dates, times and locations: Dates to be announced. Tryout dates are announced by April 1.

  • Tryout registration: not open yet. Registration is free but required. Join the Competitive Interest Form and we'll let you know when dates are announced.

  • Looking for a team now? Annual tryouts are separate from openings on current teams. To ask whether a 2026–27 team has a spot, email Admin@swatsoccer.com or call/text 801-726-0982.

Joining the interest list or asking about openings does not guarantee a spot on a team.

Who can try out: age groups

Youth soccer age groups now follow birth dates from August 1 to July 31, not school grade. This change started with the 2026–27 season. See our Age Group Change FAQ for details.

The table below shows the 2026–27 age groups, which apply to openings on current teams. Age groups for the 2027–28 season will be posted when tryouts are announced.

Tryout dates, times and locations

Dates to be announced. Each age group has its own tryout session, and players attend only their own age group's tryout. Check-in begins 30 minutes before your tryout time.

What to bring

Soccer cleats (or athletic shoes), shin guards, a filled water bottle, and weather-appropriate clothing. Arrive at least 30 minutes early for check-in. If you registered online, no paperwork is needed at check-in.

What to expect at tryouts

  • How tryouts work: a tryout is like a team training session with more players. Coaches from your age group run drills and usually a scrimmage.

  • How players are evaluated: coaches look at technical ability, decision-making, coachability, long-term development potential, and team fit.

  • Hearing back: coaches try to contact everyone who attended within 24–48 hours. Sometimes it takes a little longer.

  • Accepting a spot: if your player is offered a spot, you'll receive an email with coach and team information, team registration instructions, and how to order a uniform. You'll have about two weeks to register and order the uniform. Games start in August.

  • Missed tryouts? Contact us to ask whether any spots remain on a team.

  • Not selected? SWAT Recreation is open to all players. Many players keep building their skills in recreation and try out again the next year. Registered recreation players ages U7–U13 can also join R2C (Recreation to Competitive), which does not guarantee team placement.

Commitment and costs

  • Practices: each coach sets training days, times and locations with input from the team, so practice schedules vary by team.

  • Games: mostly on Saturdays, with an occasional weekday game. About half are home games and half are at the other team's field. U9–U14 teams play a fall and a spring season with 8 to 12 games in each. U15 and older play one league season, plus an optional High School Provisional league.

  • Travel: U9–U12 (X-League) and many U13+ teams play in the North Region (Davis, Weber, Morgan, Box Elder and Cache counties). Higher-level U13+ divisions can play teams from Utah County to Cache County. See X-League and U13 and Older.

  • Summer and winter: many teams play summer tournaments along the Wasatch Front and indoor soccer in winter. Each team decides this.

  • Tryout fee: none. Tryout registration is free.

  • Season fees: registration fees vary by age group. See the 2026–27 SWAT registration fee chart.

  • Other costs: a SWAT uniform is a separate purchase that players reuse until they outgrow it. Some costs depend on the team, such as tournaments, indoor play, and multi-roster or High School Provisional fees (see Fees).
